Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt:
Although she's better known as an actress, Zooey's never kept her vocals a secret. If you're a fan of New Girl, you hear her sing every week; and then of course, there's her indie-rock band, 'She & Him.' Joseph, on the other hand, hasn't had many roles requiring him to sing. Shame because he's actually got a beautiful voice. These two sound great together, and have posted a bunch of adorable videos on her YouTube!
Chris Pine
Star Trek's leading man actually has the voice of a country angel. (after hearing this, that's the only comparison you'll be able to make too) He showed off some very impressive vocals in 2010's Small Town Saturday Night, where he played Rhett Ryan, an aspiring country singer. As much as I love staring at him on the big screen, I definitely wouldn't mind hearing this sweet voice on any country radio station.
Ryan Gosling
Ugh. As if he wasn't already flawless, he sings too. A lot of people don't know that he's even released albums as part of a folk-rock duo who call themselves 'Dead Man's Bones.' Now, if you're wondering why you haven't stumbled upon this before on any Ryan Gosling google searches, (we've all done it) it's because he has an alias. He goes by the name Baby Goose. If that doesn't make your heart melt, I don't know what will. Enjoy/obsess.
Scarlett Johansson
If there's one Hollywood star who's got it all, it's Scarlett. She's got the looks, the awesome career, had Ryan Reynolds, and if you didn't already know, she has one stellar voice, so smooth and jazzy. She's recorded two albums: Anywhere I Lay My Head & Break Up (a collab w/ Pete Yorn.) In 2012, she was even nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars for "Before My Time," heard in the documentary, Chasing Ice.
Anna Kendrick
After the release of Pitch Perfect, and the constant radio plays of the "Cup Song," we all know Anna Kendrick is a singer. What many people don't know, however, is how long she's actually been doing it for. At the age of 13, she was nominated for a Tony (second youngest nominee in Tony history) for her performance in High Society. She made her film debut as 'Fritzi' in the low budget indie, "Camp." This clip gives you a good idea of her character and her voice.
Jessica Biel
In 2008, Jessica sang "Mad About The Boy" on the soundtrack to "Easy Virtue," the movie she was starring in at the time. I was actually very pleasantly surprised with the way she sounded, although she's gotten many mixed reviews for her performance. The song appears in the movie's opening credits, & although the rom-com didn't get much press, it was given a 10 theater release. Whatevs, she has JT.
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tviet
This adaptation of Les Mis has some of the biggest names in its cast. This live performance at the 2013 Oscars showcases everyone's voice so beautifully. Anne & Amanda have showed off their vocals before (Anne in Ella Enchanted, Amanda in Mamma Mia, Dear John & Little Red Riding Hood) and are my favorites in the movie. Aaron Tviet, now on Graceland, has starred on broadway in productions of Wicked, Hairspray, etc. Hugh definitely impressed me with his voice, & Eddie has one of the best musical scenes in the movie, "Empty Chairs."
Leighton Meester & Garrett Hedlund
Gossip Girl's queen B and Tron: Legacy's leading man make the perfect country duo in one of my favorite movies, Country Strong. This was Garrett's first role that required him to sing - he even spent time studying with Tim McGraw to make sure he got the "country feel" just right. (How adorable is that ugh) I have an entire playlist dedicated to this soundtrack, so his voice is definitely one of my favorites in my iTunes library. Leighton, (all hail Queen B) has actually done music professionally, collaborating w/ Cobra Starships & Robin Thicke, but in my opinion, country is where she belongs. Her voice is just perfect.
Iwan Rheon
If you have a subscription to HBO, you've probably come across Game of Thrones- or at least heard of it. Rheon plays Ramsay Snow on GOT - or if you were a Misfits fan, you might know him as Simon Bellamy. Either way, this Welsh actor happens to be an accomplished singer/songwriter. He's released three EPs already, so if you dig his voice - buy one, or all, here on iTunes.
Arthur Darvill
Arthur Darvill is best known for playing Rory on Doctor Who - a big crowd favorite. To the surprise of many, he also happens to be an accomplished musician. In his adolescent days, he was in an indie-rock band called Edmund - providing leading vocals as well as keyboard and guitar. Earlier this year, Arthur made his Broadway debut in Once: the Musical, where he takes on the lead role. I've yet to see the play live, but clips like this one makes me very eager to go and watch! There are so many more people who made the list, but I'll keep this post limited to 10. So there ya have it, some of Hollywood's elite- proving to have more talent than any of us would know what to do with. If you know any good ones I missed, let me know. Part two of this post will probably be in the works soon. Thanks for reading and I hope you were all pleasantly shocked with these musical discoveries! Comment or tweet me any ideas you may have.
